• More than one in five adults was 65 or disabled in 2000.  
• The California senior population was twice the nation’s senior population in 2000, 10.6% and 5% respectively.
• Nearly 9% of seniors 65 live under the poverty level.
• Nationally, 66.2% of people own homes; in California only 56.9% own homes.
• 14.7% of California’s residents receive Medi-Cal benefits. Of those, only 1.9% are aged 65 .
